Firm Profile
I have been in sole practice since 1980 and wouldn't have it any other way. I have found that the benefits and rewards far outweigh the drawbacks. My office is situated in a pleasant suburban environment in West Orange, NJ, accessible to major highways. I share space with a small firm and two other sole practitioners. I have use of a well-stocked library with a complete set of New Jersey statutes, reports, digests and court rules. Complementing this I maintain a small library of my own consisting of frequently used volumes of the United States Code Annotated, the Code of Federal Regulations, the New Jersey Statutes Annotated and the New Jersey Administrative Code. I also have my own online research capability (WESTLAW Labor and Employment Plan). I hire co-counsel as needed or may be called in by other firms. But I always insist that I be trial counsel and that I must retain overall management of the case.
I restrict my practice to labor, employment and employee benefits (pensions) litigation. I also handle some workers' compensation, social security and railroad retirement work. The pensions component of my practice is fairly evenly divided between public sector (government plans) and private sector cases which are governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), which is the federal law governing private pension plans.
